Query by HAB: I’m searching for a new wood cook stove. Four or six burner, know any!?
I’m mooving to montana and where I’ll living off the grid. I have kids and need to have to have a bigger stove to cook with, but I can only uncover a single place that sells new stoves and I don’t like them. Antiques are expensiv and tend not to have even oven temp. Please support!

Very best answer:

Answer by saaanen
I utilised a wood kitchen stove for 20 years, and I never had an even temperature. It is the nature of the beast. This doesn’t cease anything. You just need to maintain an eye on the wood.

You will want to find out what size of what type burns to develop the temp. you want, and hold on top of it. It will take a while, and you’ll have some errors, but if you stick to it you are going to never want anything else. I sold mine on eBay for $ 800. Attempt searching there. Most of us stove sellers will not pay for shipping, so hold that in mind. If you want additional aid, please feel totally free to make contact with me. I have numerous resources to assist you out.

Question by : which includes wood ash in compost to increase alkaline clay-based soil?
i am in a tiny religious community. we have 110 acres of land in a desert canyon in northern New Mexico. a excellent 80% of the land is left wild. We have started growing hops and have a couple gardens. I have started a composting project.

We heat our church with three wood burning stoves in the winter. That generates a lot of wood ash. I am told wood ash tends to make excellent composting material, but our soil is very alkaline, apparently and wood ash is alkaline as well.

what can I use to counterbalance the alkalinity of the wood ash in the compost so thjat the compost does not increase the alkalinity of the soil?

Very best answer:

Answer by euphorb
Organic amendments would consist of peat or peat moss and pine bark mulch. Chemical additives would be ammonium sulfate and iron sulfate, also ammonium nitrate. These chemical substances would also boost the fertility of the compost.

Very best answer:

Answer by sciencegravy
Nicely, outdoor furnaces/stoves ought to be a certain distance from the home to be protected, but yes, the further it is, the more heat will be lost as the heated air travels to the house. Place it the minimum safe distance, but if feasible, not further than that.
