I utilised a wood kitchen stove for 20 years, and I never had an even temperature. It is the nature of the beast. This doesn’t cease anything. You just need to maintain an eye on the wood.

We heat our church with three wood burning stoves in the winter. That generates a lot of wood ash. I am told wood ash tends to make excellent composting material, but our soil is very alkaline, apparently and wood ash is alkaline as well.

what can I use to counterbalance the alkalinity of the wood ash in the compost so thjat the compost does not increase the alkalinity of the soil?
